LEUSOGA MAO MAUGA
LEUSOGA MAO MAUGA
I had the privilege and honour to be a part of Aganu’u Samoa 101 vasega 3. The journey was challenging but 100% the best 10 week course I have been on. Tanoai and Tu’u’u delivered the programme with clarity and precision, that every Wednesday I always looked forward to the next class. We built a strong bond as a family and always showed love and support for one another every time.
I have never been so proud to be Samoan after the course. Now I have come to realise the importance of the faasamoa within my young family. I can speak confidently in front of people and understand what I’m actually saying. For the time, I can proudly accept wholeheartedly my chief status, which I was aiming for.
During the duration of the course I got to connect with my father and gained A lot of knowledge of our genealogy and lineage through him(luckily my wife’s lineage don’t connect with mine so I was quite relieved there). I learnt our villages salutations which is very important. I am still learning from him also through my father in law as well.
I grew to respect our leaders of our families after this course. All the hard work and many years of serving our families. It is a hard job. Its sad that I have just realised this now, because when I think of my grandfathers and uncles who have passed on, I get quite emotional. All the faalavelaves and protocols, for me, comes down to three attributes of a leader that I have learnt in my journey. They are Self-control, Respect and Love.
I thank God for blessing us with Tanoa’i and Tu’u’u for their vision in keeping our culture alive in Aotearoa. I pray that the journey continues and that we keep the conversation going.
I am proud to be a New Zealand born Samoan, and even prouder that I can keep the journey moving forward for the betterment of our next generation through serving my Church, Community and my Family. God bless X.
